Lately google made some changes to their rank algorithm,   in the name of providing more relevant search results for it’s users, according to their official blog, this change impacts 11.8% organic search results, in plain English, there are about 12% of google search results are considered low quality by google itself. Google started this change almost one year ago, no wonder I saw a few of my keywords’ ranks dropped like a rock, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, and a few of them even gained a few positions, it’s obvious that link building the old way is the thing of past, probably due to links crammed sites being thrown away by google.

What is old way of link building any way? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they will get links from any websites which accept adding links, the only updates on those websites are the new links, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, the name of link spamming sites is justified. Now google algorithm probably will weed out these sites, any links on them will be affected too. 

Maybe a few examples will make it clear. In the very beginning, I didn’t know better, I started promote the keyword, Tow Strap, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, lately I figured that every site in the campaign had way too many links, and the worst thing is that those sites are linking sites only and had no content, not even crap content. In the beginning, the ranking of the keyword in question rise pretty fast, lately the keyword link stayed on the first page for a while, this was the case until google made the change. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain puller , most back links for this keyword are from articles and posts, with very few plain links, you can imagine how this keyword ranks. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? Actually this is all about content, so if you create great content, your rank will improve over time, since search engines are another kind of readers. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, take a look at this blog, mothers day gift , I didn’t put too much effort into it from start, but I never stopped posting, the result? I got nice ranking for a few realy nice keywords now. As far as SEO concerned, quality blog marketing is much better than plain link building. If you can build a group of your own blogs, for instance dog leashes, you will have the power to push any sites up in search engines.

Bottom line is that you should create great content, get people to enjoy and share your stuff, promote your business with the content, as long as you don’t stop doing this, you will win over customers and search engines. Whatever you do, you will need persistence and patience, you shouldn’t expect things to improve overnight, i.e., selling online or improve your search rankings, keep writing, publishing, sharing and creating, you will see the day of success.
